Mushy Monday - Cold weather and Trail Running

This photo was taken in March of this year, while on winter vacation in the Swiss Alps. Oh boy, do I love to go out for a run on those trails!

Oh boy, I just started running then - bad bad running form!
Looking at this pic makes me actually want to book a plane ticket and head over to Switzerland to spend the weekend in those beautiful surroundings! On the other hand, it might be better to wait to do so till I can actually run again (!%!~^!^!^!@^ calf)! ;) :)
Cold weather running rocks!
I absolutely love running in cold temps. As long as I have my The North Face Windstopper tights and my Mammut softshell on, I'm fine and good to go. :) I would honestly pick snowy cold weather running over hot summer running.Just looking at snow makes me smile! :)
Last winter was pretty freezing in Holland, so I'm prepping myself for the colder temps. I already have the Inov-8 Terroc 308 trail running shoes for running on snowy and slippery trails. Since those have a mesh upper, and might result in me having frozen toes, I'm looking into the Salomon GoreTex trail running shoes. I still have to do some research on those, and check out where I could try them on, but they sure do look promising!
Ahhh, I can't wait till my PT tells me that's it's okay to head out for (at least) a slow jog! :)
Do you love cold weather running? If so, how do you layer up and what's your pick in shoes?

I love to run in the winter too. Right now I struggle with having to push the little guy most of the time. Although the day will come when Hubbs is there to "help out" more and I can enjoy all the seasons on the trails. When I get out stroller or not I still use my Sauconys I just wear wool socks if I am going to be in the snow. I'm sure there might be a better way but so far it's worked for me. Keep us posted on your research!

what an awesome picture! is that your dog? i have been longing to have a furry running companion. looks like a poodle? i would love to have a standard poodle to run with...*jealous*

i have goretex shoes, but usually run through the michigan winter with my regular brooks and wool socks. its always so cold out that the snow doesn't melt or get my feel wet at all.

@ Shelly: I will! :)

@ MissZippy: Those Swiss Alps just might turn you into a cold weather runner! ;)

@ thedawn: That's my pooch. :) It's a standard poodle. Used to be a 'he', but I fixed that. ;) ;)
I'm actually fine with the mesh shoes, but since I plan on running in the mountains more (in winter) - and that means paying expensive air fares to Switzerland - and running in deep snow more often, GoreTex might come in handy. ;)

I've never tried running in the snow but I know I run better in the cold weather. What breed is your dog? Looks like a real cutie pie =)

I love winter running. It usually takes me a few runs to re-figure out what gear I need for what temperatures but after that I’m good. Tights and a jacket…hat and gloves. And I did up an old pair of my kicks with home-made cleats and they work great:

I love the photo…but I need to get used to you without a running skirt.

Hope your calf is doing better.

I love winter running in Florida. Instead of being the usual 90F - 100F we get 75F - 85F. We break out the parkas and mittens. Heck two weeks ago in Miami I was doing a tri without a wetsuit and was quite warm.

PS Your dog looks like a big version of mine. I have a black Shih Tzu/Poodle. When you take a picture of him you can not see his black eyes. He LOVES to run but I only take him for 3 miles because I am scare his little legs will not take more.

I love winter running when it is sunny :-) The Korean Mountains are not as amazing as the Swiss Alps, but I'll take what I can get! Your blog was pointed out to me because I am slowly recovering from a stress fracture. Love the pic, I have a standard poodle too! They are the best running buddies:-)

@ Wendy: Yay! A fellow poodle lover! :)

@ Kevin: a shih tzu/poodle; that's a smaller dog, right? Be careful with logging too many miles!

@ Q: Fortunately for you, I do own winter running tights with an attachted skirts. ;)

@ Julie: My dog is a Standard Poodle. Pretty big dog, and extremely gentle! :)
