Top 10 funniest marathon cheering signs

I love cheering signs! Love love love them! Somehow, a funny sign will make me run faster (and giggle while I'm at it).
I really do hope to see a lot of funny ones out in New York City. Especially in the last couple of miles (where I'll really need them!). Just spare me the 'You're looking great!' ('cause at that point I don't) and 'Almost there!' ('cause I've been checking my watch every 20 seconds). ;) You don't have to lie to me. ;)

You can cheer me on with these babies, though! Here we go!

1.

Seriously 'Nipple Chafing turns me on'? That's too freakin' funny!

This girl will run for a shoe sale!

9.

This one is okay in the first couple of miles, but would annoy the heck out of me in the last couple of miles!

What is the funniest cheering sign you ever saw en route?

This old lady had a sign that had an arrow pointing in the direction that the runners were going and the sign said

“HELP! That man there stole my purse”.

It was only funny because it was an old lady holding the sign.

I don't know any signs at this moment but does a funny remarks counts as well? At the NYCM2006 when we left The Bronx and crossed the brigde to Manhattan someone in my runninggroup shouted: "Yeah!! Thank God, we made it alive out of The Bronx!"

@ RunningRonald: OK, die is grappig! ;)

We had the "Your feet are hurting because you're kicking so much ass" on our Hood to Coast Van 1. It amused me greatly. The other one that cracked me up was, "We thought this was a 5K!" (Hood to Coast is a 197 mile relay.)

Great signs! At one of the ultras they had actually gone in and posted signs along some of the trails. Goldfish themed messages. Because at an upcoming aid station they had..goldfish. It was so funny...stupid funny but at miles 25ish it doesn't take much to distract and amuse a tired body!

@ nikeathena: 'We thought this was a 5K'...I will be using that in my first ultramarathon! :)

@ Bethany + Ryan: Isn't the nipple chaffin one funny? ;)

@ Shelly: Hahahaha! Goldfish? Seriously? That's hilarious!

I love this post. Those signs rock.

I remember one a husband was holding in Oregon that said, "my wife can run faster than you!" I yelled out "crap, how far ahead of me is she? Can I catch her and at least be AS fast as her?"

he said, "umm, ya, I guess I didn't think out the placement of this sign very good. She's behind you" Okay, it was funny if you were there.

Not so funny, but I once saw a woman holding a sign that said "You're almost done!" - at Mile 8 of a marathon!!

Drove me nuts...

@ Emz: Hahahaha! Running a marathon and talking to the crowd; rock star!

@ Abby: Okay...that's what I call a bad sign! ;)

I'm doing a 200-mile relay this weekend and our team name is "What? I thought this was a 5k!"
So funny!!

These are all hilarious. I saw one during the Nashville Women's Half that cracked me up. We were running past Vanderbilt University and Hospital and there were two guys in lawn chairs with a giant "Single Doctor!" sign.

I ran my first 5k this year. The one sign I remember was "Run like the husband found out!" I was also really happy to see a "high five" station at halfway through.
