Branding yourself

At last Sunday's race (well...uhm...long run in disguise...) I spotted several runners with the name of their blog on their shirt. Some of them had a more creative approach on branding their blog than others. Needless to say that I only remember the 'creative' ones. And I googled their blog the minute I got home. Apparently branding yourself works.

And while I was googling those blogs and told a friend of mine how I'd found out about those blogs, this is what she said:

But, wasn't it just about running? When did the whole branding yourself thing become an issue?

Uhm, yeah. She's right. It is just about running. She got me thinking, though. My point of view: the branding yourself / your blog thing depends on what you want out of your blog, and on how you look at yourself as a blogger/runner. Do you want to put yourself out there?

You know what: I'll just give it a try. It might get me some new followers to my blog. And I might risk being called 'vain'. What I did is design a shirt to wear at an upcoming race (fingers crossed that I won't get injured again!), and I'll just wait and see what the feedback is going to be. :)

What's your take on runners/bloggers branding themselves?

I love the shirt! Very "Silly Girl Running" :)

I've branded my blog with the logo and only recently my "tagline" I've always thrown a stickered logo on my race bib when I ran races and I have been thinking I MIGHT wear a branded shirt for my next marathon. It's a great conversation starter and helps people recognize you when you attend a pre/post race meet-up. In the end it's up the blogger whether they want to brand themselves or not. If it's your thing, it's your thing, if it's not, it's not. You do risk a little bit though when you put yourself out there so there is a lot that you need to consider before you do.

That hot iron hurts like heck. I would not recommend it.

I think that part of the FUN in racing is getting noticed (a little). Most of us are not winning big races, we are simply competing at our own level so why not have a few supportes, strangers and fellow runners yelling your "name" while you run. I think it's a great idea!

Now just stay healthy and rock that shirt!

I think "branding" yourself is kind of cool. I agree that its a cool conversation starter. I was just talking to a friend of mine and my husband about creating a logo or a tag line. Ive seen people with their blogs put on bumper stickers and put it on their car. Dont know if Ill do that, BUT I think at a race it will be fun! Obviously A lot of runners Blog, so why not! =) Cant wait to hear how it works out for you!

I think it is totally fun. Our blogs are own our little creation. We built them from nothing and watched them grow...and make friends through them! I had my blog name on a shirt at the Nike Marathon and because of it a few readers noticed me and we got to chat for a while! I saw go for it!
