Split pea soup with sausages
(serves 4)
What you'll need:
- 12 oz of split peas
- pork chops (10 oz)
- pork chops (10 oz)
- 3.5 of bacon
- +/- 2 tablespoons of salt
- ground black pepper
- bay leaf (about 1/2 a leaf (dried))
- 1 potato (diced)
- 3 carrots (sliced: chunky pieces)
- leek (one, large) - (sliced)
- 3 scallions (diced)
- 2 sausages (large)
How to prepare this little gem:
1. Wash the split peas. Drain the water from the peas by sieving through a screen. Bring the split peas, pork chops, bacon, salt and pepper, bay leaf, potato, carrots, leek and scallions to a boil with 0.5 gallon of water. Let this simmer for about 30 minutes. Stir regularly.
2. Add the sausages to the soup. Let this simmer again for about 10 minutes.
3. Remove the pork chops, sausages and bay leaf. Slice the pork chops and sausages and add to the soup again. Season the soup.
Serve the soup in 4 bowls with thick slices of bread. Enjoy!

YES YES YES!! My grandparents were dutch, and they used to make this for me all the time!! Thanks!!
I just got warm from looking at it. Sounds very tasty and on those days when it is nippy out this could be perfect. May have to give it a try.
Looks like a perfect chilly day meal. Thanks for sharing!
That looks so good. I might have to keep the recipe until Winter though.
i wanna try this! =)
YUM
Mmmm....nou zit ik helemaal te watertanden :) Ik maak hier wel erwtensoep in de winter, maar ik heb nog nooit een goede vervanging kunnen vinden voor de NL rookworst. Er zijn wel smoked sausages, but no one does it like UNOX :)
Great winter recipe! :)
@ The Bryans: Hahahaha! Die van UNOX zijn toch wel de lekkerste, ja. ;)
for all you USA runners: this is a must try before you die!! it's jummmmmmie!!!
@ RunningRonald: Van die foto krijg je toch zin in een grote kop erwtensoep? :) Niet dan? :)
