Wednesday fun bits

Okay, this one has nothing to do with running whatsoever. Sorry about that. ;) It's crazy busy at work (hence the lack of posts in the last couple of days), and I really needed a good laugh. This article on Dailymail got me one: here.
Hilarious exam answers. Made me laugh out loud. Several times. :)

Three for Thursday: three reasons why I love The North Face's Better Than Naked Shorts

1. Comfy: I'm not giving up on skirthood, but these shorts are seriously light-weight (compared to - for example - the Nike Tempo Shorts). Paper thin fabric. No bulky feel. Great fit and enough room for gels/keys/etcetera. The shorts have one zippered pocket in the back and two stretchy stash pockets.

2. Fast-drying: Wore those running 22 miles on a treadmill - 22 sweaty miles. Yet they did not get soaking wet. At all. Stayed dry the entire time. No chaffing either.

3. Split: I like split shorts. The fit. The unlimited range of movement they'll give you. However, it's hard to find a good old split short these days. With a decent split on the sides. Somehow the Adidas and Under Armour just don't do it for me. The North Face has succeeded in creating an old-fashioned split short. Lucky me. :)

Two tiny 'meh' things to say about these shorts: they will set you back $50 (here) and don't come in a wide range of colors (like the Nike Tempo Shorts do).

The kind of readers this blog attracts

I've been lucky enough to have received loads of fun, interesting, emotional and sweet emails since I set up the sillygirlrunning@hotmail.com account. :)

And then I received this one:

"Hello,

I have read you blog for some time now and I have found it to be wonderful! Even better than the blog, I have found your shoes and feet to be the center of my world. I was wondering if you would care to email me some pictures or sell me your old socks and shoes. I would love to worship them and you! If not, maybe you could tease me by writing me demeaning emails? I would love to be the scum on your feet, socks and shoes.

Sincerely your slave,

[...]"

Yeah, the kind of readers this blog attracts... Be jealous, be very jealous. Then again, I should probably applaud the person that gets turned on by my jammed up feet and muddy shoes. It's a 'nice' change from the 'iewws' and 'yuck's I usually get.

Dear 'Yucky Feet Lover',

I'm very well aware of the fact that some people actually do get turned on by feet, shoes and are into the whole SM thing. I'm not one of those people. And nope, I'm also not willing to facilitate you in your fetish.

But, no need to mope around. My feet are in a constant state of yuckyness, and I'm the kind of girl that likes to photograph her feet and then gross people out by posting those pictures on my blog. That is, most people. You seem to read the blog just for those pictures.

I would however appreciate it if you would stop emailing me about this. And no, the comment section is not there for you to write in. Got you on that one, huh?

Sincerely,

SGR

Wordless Wednesday - Bringing sexy back

As from last night: In addition to the darn sexy night retainer, I'm now also sporting this super hot night splint for my freaking toe. Yeah, baby...guess who's bringing sexy back.

Yep...freakishly long toes...I know.

Love Yourself

'I love you'.

Three simple words, easy like that. And yet it seems fairly impossible for most people to say these words. And mean them. Surprisingly enough the 'I love you's spam your inbox / mail box / text messages one day every year. Oh yeah, it's Valentine's day.

All of a sudden everyone around you finds the need to buy fluffy teddy bears holding cheezy harts. Pink running shoes: yes. Running skirt covered in hearts: yes. But keep the bear. Although those do make a great dog toy...

It's not that I don't like Valentine's day. Au contraire, I think expressing your love is a great thing. And should be applauded. It's just that Valentine's day is so...in your face. I mean, come on...how many pink ponies can a girl handle? And why just one day. Say 'I love you' as often as you can. As long as you mean it. Example: I've just told my secretary that I love here. For saving my chaotic ass. And I meant it. See, that's how easy it is. ;)

Okay, so that's the first point I'm trying to make: cut the fluffy bear crap and say 'I love you' as often as you can. As long as you mean it.

Second point. As hard as it is to tell others that you love them, it's even harder to love yourself. Funny, huh? Especially since there's a heck of a lot to love about yourself. Right? Why is it so difficult to credit ourselves for having feet that will take us places? A sense of humor that can make us laugh out loud? The ability to tell the difference between right and wrong and the stubborness to stick with what we stand for? Hands to pull ourselves up when we're down? A butt that doesn't look half bad in a running skirt? The ability to smile over a street covered in fresh snow? So, why is it so hard? It shouldn't be.

So, this Valentine's day, promise me this:

1. Find a mirror.

2. Stand in front of it.

3. Take a good long look at yourself.

4. Say 'I love you'. And mean it.

And if Cupid is looking for me...tell him I'm on the dreadmill doing a hill work out...and to go easy on the arrows. ;)

Rest in Peace Miss Houston

Rest in Peace, Miss Houston. Hope you've now found the peace you were looking for. Your songs took me through many last miles. You will be missed.
